Good service, specialty coffee took longer than expected. I liked the food. Tomato Basil soup was a little acidic for my taste but once adding some sugar to cut it, the soup was much better. They have a special with half Quiche, soup and salad or pasta for 10.99. Offers fresh bread for free. There's strawberry and blackberry preserves of sorts to pair with it. I didn't get a dessert but they looked lovely.

Still tasty after all these years. La Madeleine in Bethesda is an old favorite... charming and rustic: the inexpensive food is worth the trip any day of the week. Delicious soups and salads and yummy desserts make for a lovely respite... the warmth of the fire completes the ambience. Good value for money in otherwise expensive downtown Bethesda.

The croissants from la Madeleine are some of the nicest I have ever had.
The French Breakfast was both wonderful and satisfying. The galette was a pleasant surprise. I was completely satisfied for most of the day.
The quiche was not only massive but sublime in flavour and flaky in crust.
The cafe americano, similarly, had deep flavour and a well rounded taste, not too brash and yet robust.
If you find yourself in Bethesda you simply must make the time to enjoy at least a coffee and croissant from la Madeleine!

This is like a French Panera. I prefer the Gaithersburg location but this location is also good, albeit less clean. The food though, is still good, and I like getting their shrimp pesto (the freshly cooked bread was amazing)
