Authentic pâtisserie ! I would say only the pricing is American because it tastes as good as in France . The location is great since its downtown Rockville, the cashiers and bakers are very knowledgeable of their products. A great franchise !

Yummy pastries and friendly service. Also, if they don't give you a receipt, your purchase is free. They have a relatively small selection here, but the quality is very good. My sister got a Napoleon and it was soft and tasty. Their chocolate almond croissant could have a bit more filling, but otherwise very good. Would come here again.

Vie de France has incredible appeal on the outside but, unfortunately, its food and pastries look more appetizing than they actually are. The food doesn't taste bad by any means, it just doesn't quite meet my expectations. (Having said that, I am not French, so I am not the right judge on authenticity.) The croissant was buttery on the outside but not on the inside, nor was it flaky; it had more of a bread-like texture (see pic). The mini baguette had the same texture but with a hard crust. Finally, the chocolate cake and mousse was not as sweet as a typically chocolate cake and mousse. Usually, I appreciate that but here it seemed a bit too muted. Otherwise, clean store, good staff, and appealing store front.

The coffee was good but a bit over priced for what I got. But the kicker was the orange cake. It looked beautiful and the concept of a chocolate shelled layer cake is great. BUT, the sponge was dry, there was no orange flavor, and it was freezer burned. I'd say the flavor was 60% freezer-burn, then very bland. If the owners read this, it is not personal, and the staff was helpful and friendly, but the food did not seem fresh and lacked flavor.
